Meet Mrs. Shawna Birchmeier - Kuehn-Haven Middle School Principal

I am very excited to begin my first year serving the community as building principal at Kuehn Haven Middle School. In an effort for families and students to get to know me better, I wanted to share with you some information about myself.

I graduated from Grand Blanc High School before earning a History degree and my teaching certification at University of Michigan- Flint.  I then began my education career at Grand Blanc High School where I taught history while earning a Master’s Degree in Education Leadership at Eastern Michigan and earning an Education Specialist Degree in Education Leadership from Oakland University. This led me to working as an Assistant Principal at Durand High School and then as a Middle School Principal, 6-12 Curriculum Director, and later High School Principal at St. Charles Community Schools. I have grown vastly as an educator over my 20 years in education!  I’ve learned from staff, students, and community members which has helped bring me to Kuehn Haven Middle Schools as the Principal.

Personally, my husband Torey is a teacher and FFA advisor at Durand High School. I also have two bonus kids, Kennedy and Carter.  We live in New Lothrop and have a very active lifestyle on the family farm.  We raise crops as well as a wide variety of animals. I also love yoga, cooking/baking, traveling, spending time with my family, and tea!  I’m looking forward to getting to know everyone and working collaboratively with you to grow our students academically, socially, and emotionally.
